My journey began on 07/05/2025 which was Wednesday evening with my three other
brothers who were going to Amakuriat and Nakwamekwi parish. I was assigned for my
missionary experience at Christ the King Lokichar Parish located in Lodwar. I arrived safely
despite some delays along the way, I was picked by the community superior Fr. Daniel in
Lokichar town, though the journey was very tiresome thanks be to God that I happened to arrive
safe and I was warmly welcomed to the community.
Community Life
The community comprised of four members Fr. Simon who is the Parish Priest and
Bursar, Fr. Daniel who is the community superior, Fr Daniel Babley and Scholastic Koffi. It is a
well organize community where each individual performs his respective responsibility well
without interfering with the other person. They respect one another which makes the
collaboration among them easy. My experience in this sector was amazing in that most of the
aspects were do in our postulancy are practiced there, having meals together at the same time,
being mindful of community member whereabouts when he is not for meals. In the morning, we
used to make breakfast for ourselves without depending on who wakes up early.
On Mondays we used to have a joint mass with the sisters at 6pm where we could share
our weekly experiences, it was rotational such if it’s in our community this Monday then next
Monday it was celebrated in the sisters’ community. After the mass we could have supper
together with the sisters. Generally, the community members welcomed me well and made my
stay nice, they could correct me whenever I made a mistake that helped me to grow in my
journey of vocation. The moments we went with father to outstation where we resided for one
week we worked together prepared meals together and even did the manual work together while
making stories.
One of the challenges that I faced was about the prayers were private and personal
starting from morning till night prayers. It was a personal initiative to do it. What helped is the
structure of postulancy that made the prayers part of me and therefore I never had any difficulty
doing it by myself.

Pastoral Dimension
This sector made me realize what to expect in future as a religious. It increased my desire
of becoming a Comboni since it was true reflection of the Charism of our Institute. Initially I had
little knowledge of pastoral since being in the postulancy I was only used to Sunday’s apostolate.
My first assignment was the Jumuhiyas who used to meet from Tuesday to Sunday in the
morning except on Sundays which was at 3pm. The shocking part was that I was to be informed
earlier where our next Jumuhiya will in the postulancy but here in the mission you were to leave
outside the gate and listen to where the drum was being beaten in order to know where the
Jumuhiya is. There was no phone call to alert you. I could walk a long distance together with the
scholastic in order to know where the Jumuhiya was, by the time were reaching the house we
were fully exhausted.
The second assignment was with the schools that is Lokichar Girls Junior school and
Uhuru Girls Secondary where I was teaching catechesis, how to respond to mass after the priests
and choir. It was the best moments since the students were cooperative and ready to learn and
they gave me easy time to handle. At times I could join the parish choir and train with them. On
Sundays I was on rotation, I was going with different priests to the outstations. This was also a
moment to learn from them and they could teach on how to handle issues.
During the two months that I was there I enjoyed my apostolate and learnt a lot about the
nature of the mission. Challenges were not there only the strange things that I came across was
the morning Jumuhiya, beating of drums which at the beginning seemed to be awkward but after
getting used to it was normal and I became part of it.
In conclusion generally what I have come to realize that we should take for granted
whatever we do in our postulancy since they act as road and they are what made my stay smooth
in Lokichar, the weekly catechesis, community living, prayer dimension, manual work cleaning
and the brotherhood.
