STUDY LIFE

A good philosophical preparation is fundamental not only to begin the study of theology
but also as an important basis to face life and the situations and problems that characterise today&uot;s world (RFIS n. 597).

The importance of study was clearly elaborated by St. Daniel Comboni many years ago when he said that the candidates of the institute had to be committed to study with responsibility.

Study therefore, is one of the major priorities in our community. Philosophy, for candidates to priesthood, is the main course studied during the three years of Postulancy. Despite the fact that philosophy is a requirement for the study of theology, we also study it in order to grow intellectually so as to foster critical thinking.

Philosophy and its different disciplines, together with some theological courses, equip us with the knowledge and skills to carry out our responsibilities.

Study and professional preparation are essential commitments in view of the missionary service that the brother will be called upon to render (RFIS 315).

Study occupies much of the time during the time of the Postulancy, it is important, therefore, to stress the need for serious and methodical study with adequate space for it in the time -table (RFIS 307). We attend lectures at Tangaza University College, normally up to 1:15pm; on Wednesdays and Thursdays afternoons, there are organized seminars/electives and core courses. For better use of time, those having afternoon lectures are provided with pocket money for lunch.

Personal studies in the house begin at 4:30 pm to 5.30 pm, on Tuesdays the schedule starts at 3:30 pm; the second period of study starts from 8.00 pm to 8.45 pm only on the days when having the night prayers . The third period starts from 9:45pm onwards.

Computers and photocopying machine are used only for school and community works, any other work is done through the consent of the formators.

NB THE USE OF THE INTERNET IS MEANT FOR ACADEMIC WORK AND RESEARCH ONLY AND NOT FOR PLEASURE AND SOCIAL MEDIA USAGE.

4.3 Each member is responsible for keeping the books properly; encyclopaedias and reference books are not removed from the library and no community member is to pile up books for himself in the rooms.
